Wormhole reopened

Yep, the Wormhole trail near the end of the Black Route at Glentress is now open again for business, after being closed for tree thinning works and subsequent tidy up.

With the Borders College Workwise group and the Trailfairies we've cleared the brash and debris off the trail, completed some trail fettling and a few spots of resurfacing. Overall though, damage from the machines crossing the trail was minimal thanks to some excellent protective brash mats.
The last couple of days myself, Mark and Andy (MTB Ranger's) have been working on tweaking the rock garden at the entry slightly, triming stumps down, branch pruning and final trail fettle/tidy up.

With lots more light into the trail that feeling of descending into the gloom is (unfortunately) gone, but the trail looks great and is still riding really well.

Rejigging a couple of the bigger rocks to open up the ride line and mellow out just a little.

Cheers,

So I don’t get to throw myself 4 or 5 times into jaggy rocks before eventually walking down that section any more…… cant say I am entirely disappointed about that :-)

I will ride it this weekend before commenting, however it now looks a bit tame for a black route in the pictures.

Well, I've not ridden the new one yet, but why make a black easier?

Hi Pete,

Since we built the rock entry feature in 2005 riders have frequently shortcutted around it (hence the fence and branches). By mellowing the feature just a little we're aiming to encourage more riders to stick to the intended (rock) ride line - hopefully less erosion to the sides of the the trail and less time spent blocking off the shortcutting.

It remains very challenging to ride/clean and is definately still a black grade feature - the changes to how it rides are very subtle.

cheers,

Andy (mtb ranger)
