The first of the seven rounds in the Scottish Cross-Country Series was held at Kirroughtree on Sunday 29th March.
It was a record turn out for the SXC organisers (supported for this round by The Breakpad, the on site bike shop) with 400 riders from all over the country competing on an 8km course comprising a mixture of the 7stanes trails and special event sections.
Kirroughtree really show cased this event, providing fantastic ridding, with challenging root sections, tricky climbs, steep descents and lots and lots of the fast flowing singletrack this trail centre is famous for.
The weather was perfect, and the course just seamed to get even better as the laps unfolded, a great day was had by all. Newton Stewart saw a whirlwind of bikes on cars and people staying in B&B’s and hotels – an early season boost to the local economy.
For many riders taking part this was there first visit to the area, how can they resist returning to sample more of the 7stanes and all that Dumfries and Galloway has to offer in the future.
Forthcoming events at Kirroughtree:
Women On Wheels (WOW) – 17th May – A festival for female cyclists as part of the Original Bike Festival – for further information visit http://www.thebreakpad.com/womenonlymountai.html
Thebreakpad Challenge – 31st May - A challenging 10km run followed by a 17km bike race
